What hot tub removal actually involves

A hot tub removal is genuinely four jobs in one. First, the tub gets drained — typically through a garden hose into the yard or storm drain depending on local rules and water condition. Second, the electrical disconnect: most hot tubs are hardwired into a 240V GFCI breaker; the breaker gets shut off and the wiring capped. Third, the plumbing disconnect: any external plumbing (gas line for gas heaters, water fill line, drain) gets disconnected. Fourth, the dismantling and haul: the tub gets cut into sections that fit through gates and onto the truck.

Most hot tubs are 600-1,000 pounds dry, with significantly more weight when waterlogged. Dismantling reduces transport weight and makes gate access feasible. The tub doesn't need to come out intact — we don't resell hot tubs.

  • Drain (homeowner can pre-drain to save time, or we handle it)
  • Electrical disconnect at the breaker (240V hardwired typical)
  • Plumbing disconnect (water fill, drain, gas line if gas-heated)
  • Dismantle into sections that fit through gate access
  • Haul cover, shell, frame, and any associated decking
  • Surrounding decking removal if requested as part of the scope

Permanently installed hot tubs that are part of an in-ground pool spa or built into a deck structure require permitted demolition work. We don't do permitted structural demolition. For built-in spa removals, you need a licensed contractor; we coordinate with them on debris removal afterward.

Why most consumer haulers refuse hot tubs

Three reasons. First, weight: a hot tub is heavier than most consumer haulers' trucks are rated for. Second, electrical and plumbing: most consumer haulers don't carry the tools or training to safely disconnect 240V hardwired electrical. Third, gate access: most hot tubs were installed before the surrounding fence and landscaping; getting an intact tub out requires either disassembly or fence removal. Consumer haulers default to refusing the job rather than quoting it correctly.

For JRP, hot tubs are routine. We carry the tools (sawzalls, electrical disconnect supplies, plumbing wrenches), the equipment (multi-Loader crews for safe lifting, dollies and sleds for moving heavy sections), and the training. Pricing is locked at the walkthrough so the homeowner isn't surprised on the day of the work.

Above-ground pools and surrounding decking

Hot tubs often share a backyard with above-ground pools or surrounding decking that's being refreshed at the same time. Above-ground pool removal follows similar logic — drain, disconnect, dismantle, haul. The pool walls cut into sections; the liner removes separately; the surrounding deck or pavers come out as part of the same scope.

For homeowners doing a full backyard refresh — hot tub out, above-ground pool out, old deck demolished, all hauled — we quote the entire scope as a single fixed-price engagement. Multi-day work is standard for full backyard refreshes; the pricing accounts for that.

What affects pricing

Three things drive pricing variance: tub size and weight, access conditions, and surrounding scope. Standard 4-6 person hot tubs price differently from larger 8-person or swim-spa configurations. Tubs accessed through standard residential gates price differently from tubs requiring fence removal, crane lifts, or unusual demolition. Hot-tub-only scopes price differently from full-yard-refresh scopes including pool, decking, or other structures.

Whether the tub is operational or not doesn't materially change pricing — we don't resell hot tubs, so condition is irrelevant to the quote. What matters is access, weight, and what's coming out alongside the tub.

Frequently asked

Hot tub removal questions we hear from homeowners.

How is a hot tub priced for removal?

Pricing is custom-quoted based on tub size, access conditions, and surrounding scope. Standard 4-6 person tubs price differently from larger configurations or swim spas. Tubs accessed through standard gates price differently from tubs requiring fence removal or crane lifts. The walkthrough identifies access conditions before quoting; pricing locks at quote.

Does it matter if the tub still works?

No, condition doesn't change pricing materially. We don't resell hot tubs, so whether the tub is operational, partially operational, or completely dead doesn't affect the quote. What matters is access, weight, and what's coming out alongside the tub.

Do I need to drain the tub before you arrive?

Optional. If you drain it ahead of time, the work happens faster on the day-of. If we drain it, that's included in the standard scope. Some homeowners prefer to drain themselves to avoid water release into a yard area they care about; we follow whatever approach makes sense for your property.

What about the electrical and plumbing connections?

We handle the disconnect on standard 240V hardwired hot tubs and standard plumbing connections. If your installation is unusual (custom electrical configuration, gas heater with complex gas line routing, integrated pool plumbing), we may coordinate with a licensed electrician or plumber to handle disconnect before the tub removal. The walkthrough identifies these cases in advance.

Can you handle the surrounding deck or hardscape if it's coming out too?

Yes. Wood decks, vinyl decks, surrounding pavers, surrounding gravel beds — all standard scope additions. For full backyard refreshes (hot tub out, deck demolished, pool removed, hardscape replaced), we quote the entire scope as a single engagement. Multi-day work is standard for these.

What if my hot tub is built into my deck or in-ground?

Permanently installed hot tubs built into deck structures or integrated with in-ground pools usually require permitted structural demolition work. We don't do permitted structural demolition. You'd need a licensed contractor for the structural work; we coordinate with them on debris removal afterward as a separate scope.

Tell us about the hot tub.

Tub size, location in the yard, gate access, and whether you're removing anything else alongside it (pool, deck, hardscape). The more you tell us up front, the more accurate the quote. Most hot-tub-only quotes can be locked from photos plus a description.
