What outdoor structure removal includes

Backyard sheds are the highest-volume category. Standard scope covers shed disassembly (siding, roof panels, framing, floor), debris consolidation, full haul-away to disposal or salvage facility. Sheds on simple gravel or wood-floor foundations are removed in full. Sheds on concrete pads have the structure removed and the pad left in place (concrete pad demolition is a separate construction & demolition scope). Standard residential sheds (8x10 to 12x16) clear in 2-6 hours.

Playsets, swing sets, and trampolines are common pre-listing and replacement scopes. Wood playsets disassemble into framing lumber, deck panels, slides, and hardware. Metal swing sets disassemble into pole sections, swing assemblies, and ground anchors. Trampolines disassemble into spring assemblies, mat, frame, and safety net. Plastic playsets (Step2, Little Tikes) often haul intact when small, disassemble when large. Gazebos and pergolas are framing-heavy, with roof shingles or metal panels routed separately. Fences are quoted per linear foot, with chain-link, wood privacy, vinyl, and aluminum each having different debris characteristics.

Items covered under outdoor structure scope

  • Backyard sheds (8x10 to 12x16 standard, larger by quote)
  • Wood and metal playsets, swing sets, monkey bars
  • Trampolines (residential and commercial sizes)
  • Gazebos, pergolas, sun shades, garden structures
  • Wood, vinyl, chain-link, and aluminum fencing (per linear foot)
  • Wood decks (standalone, not attached to home)
  • Disassembly tools and labor included in standard scope
  • Material sorting by stream (lumber, metal, plastic, hardware)
  • Transport to construction debris and recycling facilities
  • Donation routing for playsets in good condition (where partnerships exist)
Not included in standard scope Concrete pad or slab demolition (scoped under construction & demolition debris). Asbestos siding abatement on older sheds (specialty abatement contractor required first). Tree-supported treehouse removal (arborist evaluation needed first). Structures attached to the primary residence (scoped as construction debris). Permit pulling where required by municipality (varies). Site grading or landscape restoration after structure removal (separate landscape contractor scope).

How outdoor structure removal works operationally

Lead time is typically 1-3 days for residential outdoor structure removal, with same-day available in most markets for sheds and playsets. Pre-assessment is photo-based: customers send photos of the structure, the access path from the curb, and any obstacles (trees, slopes, narrow gates). The Loader team reviews to confirm disassembly approach, equipment needs (sawzall, drill, prybar, dollies), and crew size (most jobs run 2-3 Loaders, 4 for large gazebos or fence runs).

Disassembly happens on-site, working from the top down. Sheds: roof panels first, then siding, then framing, then floor. Playsets: roof and slide first, then deck and rails, then framing posts. Gazebos: roof shingles or panels first, then rafters, then posts. Materials separate as they come down: lumber stacks one side, metal hardware in another pile, plastic and fiberglass in another. The truck loads in the same order as disposal routing (lumber to one facility, metal scrap to another, mixed debris to a third) so we minimize handling and tipping fees.

Where outdoor structure removal fits the buyer's workflow

Pre-listing yard prep drives a substantial share of outdoor structure volume. A dilapidated shed or rusted swing set is a buyer-side red flag that reduces listing price; agents recommend removal before listing photos. We coordinate with the agent on timing relative to the photo and showing schedule. Pre-listing scopes commonly bundle shed removal with playset removal, fence repair, and yard waste cleanup under one bulk junk removal scope.

HOA enforcement work is the second major driver. HOAs commonly issue notices for non-compliant outdoor structures (sagging fences, weathered playsets exceeding height limits, sheds installed without architectural review). Property owners face fines if structures aren't removed by deadline; we route HOA-deadline jobs through priority scheduling. Property managers coordinating distressed-property turnover also rely on outdoor structure removal as part of standard lot cleanup.

How outdoor structure removal is priced

Standard backyard shed removal (8x10) runs $300-$500 in most markets. Pricing accounts for shed size, foundation type (gravel pad keeps it lower, wood floor adds time), access difficulty (gate width, slope, distance to truck), and disposal facility distance. Larger sheds (12x16 with loft) run $500-$900. Playsets run $200-$450, swing sets $150-$300, trampolines $100-$200, gazebos $400-$800.

Fences are priced per linear foot. Wood privacy fence runs $4-$8 per linear foot for removal. Chain-link runs $3-$6 per linear foot. Vinyl runs $5-$10 per linear foot. Aluminum and wrought iron are quoted on inspection because of weight and salvage value. Site distance to construction debris facility factors into final pricing in rural markets. For property management portfolios with recurring outdoor structure work, per-unit pricing is set during account onboarding and runs in the lower part of the range.

Frequently asked questions about outdoor structure removal.

Do I need to disassemble the shed or playset before pickup?

No. Disassembly is included in the standard scope. Sheds, playsets, swing sets, gazebos, and pergolas all get broken down on-site. The Loader team brings sawzalls, prybars, drills, and demolition tools. The customer doesn't need to do any prep work besides clearing the area around the structure. The one exception is sheds with active electrical service (a powered shed used as a workshop or office); that needs to be disconnected at the panel by the customer or an electrician before we arrive.

Can you remove a shed with a concrete pad or slab foundation?

Yes, but concrete pad or slab demolition is scoped separately because it's a different operation (jackhammer or saw work, debris weight, concrete-recycling routing). The standard scope removes the structure on top of the pad, leaving the pad in place for the customer to use as-is, repurpose, or have demolished separately. If the customer wants the pad removed, that's coordinated under our construction & demolition debris service. Sheds on wood floors or simple gravel pads have full removal in standard scope including the floor or gravel.

How long does a shed or playset removal take?

Standard backyard shed (8x10 or smaller) takes 2-4 hours on-site including disassembly, haul-away, and cleanup. Larger sheds (12x16 with lofts) run 4-6 hours. Playsets and swing sets run 2-3 hours. Gazebos and pergolas run 3-5 hours depending on roof complexity. Fences are quoted per linear foot and run a full day for typical residential lot perimeters. Pre-assessment happens 1-3 days before the actual removal for residential, photo-based for most jobs.

Can you remove the structure same-day on a tight HOA or listing deadline?

Same-day or next-day is available in most markets for sheds and playsets, depending on Loader availability. HOA enforcement work and pre-listing prep are common drivers of tight deadlines and we route those through priority scheduling. For fence replacement coordination with a fence contractor, we sequence directly with the contractor (we remove the old fence, contractor installs the new one). For playset replacement, we coordinate similarly with playset retailers and installers.

What happens to the shed or playset materials after removal?

Disposal routes by material stream. Lumber and pressure-treated wood route to construction debris disposal (pressure-treated wood is regulated in some states because of CCA chemistry and goes to specific facilities). Metal components (swing set frames, fence posts, hardware) route to scrap metal recycling. Plastic playset components route to plastics recycling where infrastructure exists, otherwise construction debris. Donation routing applies to playsets in good condition; we coordinate with local children's charities and KaBOOM-affiliated programs in markets where partnerships exist. Sheds are rarely donatable because of the disassembly damage involved.

Are there structures you won't remove?

Structures with active asbestos siding (older sheds from the 1960s-70s sometimes have transite/asbestos board) require specialty abatement before haul scope, not standard removal. Treehouses anchored into living trees require an arborist or tree-service evaluation before removal because of fall risk and tree damage concerns. Permanent structures with foundations exceeding 4-foot depth are scoped under construction & demolition. Structures connected to a primary residence (attached garage, mudroom, screened porch under main roof) are scoped under construction & demolition rather than outdoor structure scope.
